The AniMatsuri videogames room will run for the entire duration of the festival, and will feature the following tournaments (and casual games in between):

Persona 4 Ultimax – A popular fighting game.Rules:

  • Tournament runs on a PlayStation 3.
  • Personal controllers are allowed. Controller layouts can be changed before a match starts.
  • Bracket matches are best-of-3, semi-finals and finals are best-of-5.
  • Semi-finals and finals take place on the last day.
  • The tournament format is double elimination.
  • No add-on characters.
  • Excessive pausing during a match can result in a disqualification.
  • If a player is not present when called, their match gets moved to the bottom of the list and the tournament proceeds to the next match. If the player is still not present when called at the end of the list, they forfeit, and their opponent automatically goes to the next round.

Hearthstone – Bring your own device!

Rules:

  • You play on your own device, using your own Battle.net account.
  • Bracket matches are played to a first-round victory.
  • Semi-finals are best-of-3. Finals are best-of-5.
  • The winner proceeds to the next round. No last-chance rounds.
  • Each class may have only one deck.
  • Decks are built by the player before the event begins.
  • Players can change classes between rounds.
  • Decks cannot be altered during the competition.
  • All cards are allowed.
  • If a player is not present when called, their match gets moved to the bottom of the list and the tournament proceeds to the next match. If the player is still not present when called at the end of the list, they forfeit, and their opponent automatically goes to the next round.

Magic the Gathering – not just video games! Bring all of your old and new MtG cards. The tournament is played with physical cards. Casual games encouraged alongside the tournament.

Rules:

  • The tournament format is Modern Constructed, single elimination, best-0f-3.
  • Decks must be pre-built by players before the tournament begins, out of their own cards.
  • The winner proceeds to the next round. No last-chance rounds.
  • 50 minutes per round. No intentional slow play (warning for 1st offense, disqualification for 2nd offense. If the round is not over after 50 minutes, play goes to a 5-turn clock. If the match still has not ended after 5 full turns, the player with the highest life total wins.
  • If a player is not present when called, their match gets moved to the bottom of the list and the tournament proceeds to the next match. If the player is still not present when called at the end of the list, they forfeit, and their opponent automatically goes to the next round.
