Manga is a comic that is usually associated with the Japanese pop culture. In Japan, this term is for both comics and graphic novels. Manga is read by children and adults, by men and women. Mangas are grouped into various genres and every manga creator (mangaka) has their unique style and handwriting. Manga has influenced the western (comic) artists whose works have in turn affected the development of the art of manga. Stories that are brought to the readers through manga can span over the years and, for some readers, be associated with reaching adolescence and adulthood. From September 18th till October 13th, the Library of Tartu will host an exhibition on the 4th floor and will give an overview of the manga belonging to the library. In addition to manga, figurines belonging to Mariliis Teearu’s personal collection will be displayed – figurines are figures of characters connected to the Japanese anime, manga, and pop culture.
